A portable building is a building structured and made to be mobile rather than stationery and immovable. They are also known as mobile buildings. A common new design is very much structured and built with a purpose, but portable buildings need not be same everywhere because portable buildings are built as per the customization of the user. Some times portable buildings are built for a short period they are destroyed after the purpose is served. Such concept has been used since the ages of nomads as they used to settle for a temporary period according to the supply of water and the availability of food.
The most common modernized types of Portable buildings are designed so that one can be carried to or from one place on a large truck and installed with the help of a crane to the other place. They have many numbers of uses. They are often seen, single or in clusters, as temporary lodgings for the workers and the contractors involved in construction of buildings bridges and roads. Portable houses are also used as offices in the construction sites. Portable houses are made up of light material like asbestos to tins so that they can be carried to the different places easily.
Portable houses are generally seen in the village areas where the people cannot afford to build concrete buildings. Some places which are prone to natural calamities like earthquakes, cyclones, typhoons have such portable buildings so that the loss created by any such natural calamity is not that high. In India in village areas the sometimes schools are made of such buildings because there are no permanent schools in these backward areas. Refugee camps are made up of such portable buildings as the refugee camps keep on shifting from one place to another. Even army people are seen using these buildings as their camps also change from one place to another.In recent times the Portable Buildings are equipped with all the modern amenities like toilet and electricity. These portable buildings are not the same everywhere. They differ on the basis of size shape and color.
These movable mobile buildings help to provide relief to the overcrowding areas. Hospitals are built in some inaccessible areas or areas which are prone to natural calamites or areas where the normal buildings cannot be built. These buildings can be made up of different types of materials like wood, asbestos, plastic, rubber. Such materials are light in weight and easy to transport. I this era where population is ever increasing and the pressure on the land is increasing to cope with this problem such portable buildings are blessing. These buildings not only provide shelter to people but also can give schooling and medical aids to the new generation. There are many companies in different countries which are involved in construction of portable buildings.
